Omnisend vs Klaviyo: Which Is Better for Ecommerce in 2026?

If we had to choose one platform for a large, sophisticated ecommerce brand and price was irrelevant, we would still choose Klaviyo.

It has the higher ceiling, a broader ecosystem, and more depth when your segmentation, customer data, integrations and lifecycle marketing become genuinely complex.

But after actually working inside both platforms, there's an important second part to that answer:

Omnisend is much closer to Klaviyo than a lot of ecommerce brands probably realize.

We haven't run into a major day-to-day ecommerce use case where Omnisend felt fundamentally incapable. In some areas, including A/B testing and how certain reporting insights are surfaced, we actually prefer the Omnisend experience.

So the question isn't really: “Which platform has more features?” It's: “Which extra capabilities will your team actually use?”

Klaviyo currently has the broader overall platform and integration ecosystem. Omnisend, meanwhile, stays more tightly focused on ecommerce email, SMS and automation.

That distinction matters.

Klaviyo has the higher ceiling. Omnisend often requires less climbing to reach what you actually need.

Our Experience Using Klaviyo and Omnisend

Klaviyo is still the platform we know best and the one we use most often.

There's a reason it became the market leader for ecommerce. It's extremely capable, and as ecommerce businesses become more sophisticated, the likelihood that they can build what they need inside Klaviyo is very high.

But we've also spent real time operating accounts inside Omnisend.

And the biggest surprise wasn't finding a huge list of things Omnisend couldn't do. It was the opposite.

For normal ecommerce use cases, the gap often felt much smaller than we expected.

Campaigns, automations, segmentation, forms, SMS, testing and reporting are all there. The differences show up more in how deep you can go and how the platforms make you work, rather than one platform simply having a feature and the other not.

That's why we don't think “Klaviyo for serious brands, Omnisend for beginners” is a particularly useful way to look at this anymore.

The Biggest Difference: Ceiling vs Operational Simplicity

This is probably the simplest way to understand the two platforms.

Klaviyo Has the Higher Ceiling

If you want to build increasingly sophisticated customer data architecture, advanced segments, deep integrations and complex lifecycle programs, Klaviyo gives you a lot of room.

Its platform has expanded well beyond traditional email marketing into a broader customer data and B2C CRM ecosystem.

For a large ecommerce brand with a complex stack, that matters.

Omnisend Reduces Operational Friction

Not every ecommerce brand needs that entire ceiling.

If your actual requirements are:

  • strong email campaigns
  • ecommerce automations
  • SMS
  • segmentation
  • testing
  • forms
  • useful reporting
  • Shopify integration

Omnisend can cover a large percentage of what you're probably doing every week.

And in some cases, it makes those jobs faster.

More capability isn't automatically more useful capability.

Where We Think Klaviyo Is Better

1. Overall Platform Depth

If price didn't matter and we were choosing for a highly sophisticated ecommerce operation, Klaviyo would still be our default.

There are simply more places to go as your requirements become complicated.

This becomes especially relevant if email is only one part of a larger ecommerce email and SMS system built on customer data and lifecycle infrastructure.

2. Integration Ecosystem

Klaviyo has the broader integration ecosystem.

Omnisend still integrates with a large range of ecommerce tools, so this will not matter for every brand.

But this is one of the areas we would inspect carefully before migrating a complex ecommerce business.

It doesn't matter how good the email editor is if an important part of your stack can't communicate with it properly.

3. Flow Management

This one is more subjective, but we prefer Klaviyo's flow overview.

When you spend a lot of time building and managing lifecycle automations, being able to understand the structure quickly matters.

Part of that preference is almost certainly familiarity. We have spent far more time in Klaviyo than Omnisend.

So we wouldn't call Omnisend's flow builder bad.

We simply find Klaviyo more comfortable here.

4. Sign-Up Forms

This is another smaller UX preference.

We prefer building and working with sign-up forms inside Klaviyo.

Again, this isn't a reason we would migrate an entire ESP.

It's just one area where, in our experience, Klaviyo feels better to operate.

Where We Think Omnisend Is Better

1. A/B Testing Workflow

This was one of the areas where Omnisend pleasantly surprised us.

Both platforms support testing, so most comparison tables simply show:

Klaviyo: ✓ and Omnisend: ✓

That tells you almost nothing.

The actual difference is workflow.

We've found setting up A/B tests in Omnisend particularly straightforward. It reduces the friction between:

“We should test this.” and: “The test is live.”

That matters because testing is only valuable if your team actually does it consistently.

2. Reporting Accessibility

This is where we would make an important distinction:

Klaviyo can have greater reporting depth without necessarily making every useful insight easier to access.

Omnisend surfaces certain information in ways that we've found very convenient during normal account management.

There are retention metrics and breakdowns where Omnisend gets you to the useful answer quickly, while Klaviyo can require more digging.

That doesn't mean Omnisend has a more powerful analytics platform overall. It means:

Reporting depth and reporting accessibility are not the same thing.

And depending on your team, accessibility can be extremely valuable.

3. Price

Omnisend is generally less expensive at comparable contact tiers.

ContactsOmnisend StandardKlaviyo Email
1,000$20/mo$30/mo
5,000$81/mo$100/mo
10,000$132/mo$150/mo
20,000$265/mo$375/mo
50,000$413/mo$720/mo
100,000$900/mo$1,380/mo

Pricing shown reflects published pricing available when this comparison was written and may change. Always confirm current pricing directly with each platform (Klaviyo pricing and the Omnisend comparison page) before making a decision.

But price alone is a terrible reason to choose an ESP.

Saving $200 per month is irrelevant if the more expensive platform lets your team make materially better decisions.

The reverse is also true:

Paying thousands more per year for sophistication nobody in your company uses is just software bloat.

Features We Wouldn't Use to Make the Decision

One problem with most Omnisend vs Klaviyo comparisons is that they become giant feature tables.

  • Email campaigns? ✓ / ✓
  • Automations? ✓ / ✓
  • Segmentation? ✓ / ✓
  • SMS? ✓ / ✓
  • A/B testing? ✓ / ✓
  • Forms? ✓ / ✓
  • Reporting? ✓ / ✓

At that point, you haven't helped anyone make a decision.

Both platforms can handle the core jobs an ecommerce email and SMS program needs.

The real questions are:

  • How sophisticated does your segmentation need to become?
  • How complex is your tech stack?
  • How advanced are your lifecycle automations?
  • How much data flexibility do you need?
  • Which platform makes your team faster?
  • Which capabilities are you actually going to use?

That is where the decision gets interesting.

Automation and Flows

For most ecommerce brands, either platform can run the lifecycle automations that matter.

Think:

  • welcome
  • browse abandonment
  • cart abandonment
  • checkout abandonment
  • post-purchase
  • winback
  • replenishment
  • customer-specific automations

Klaviyo becomes more attractive as the logic surrounding those automations becomes increasingly sophisticated.

If you have a large amount of customer data, multiple integrations and increasingly granular branching requirements, its depth starts to matter more.

But if your current “complex lifecycle infrastructure” is actually five important flows with sensible splits and good messaging, don't assume you need the platform with the longest feature list.

Complexity should solve a problem. It shouldn't be the goal.

Segmentation and Customer Data

This is one of Klaviyo's strongest arguments.

For mature ecommerce brands that rely heavily on customer data and increasingly sophisticated Klaviyo segmentation, Klaviyo has a very strong infrastructure.

That gives Klaviyo a meaningful advantage when your requirements extend beyond:

“Show me people who bought product X and engaged in the last 90 days.”

But this is also where brands need to be careful.

We've seen plenty of Klaviyo accounts with dozens of clever segments nobody actually uses.

Advanced segmentation is only an advantage when it changes what you do.

Klaviyo vs Omnisend Reporting

If your question is:

Which platform has more potential depth?

We would give that to Klaviyo.

If your question is:

Which platform sometimes makes useful ecommerce information faster to understand?

Our experience has been surprisingly favorable toward Omnisend.

That is probably the biggest difference between our opinion and a generic feature comparison.

Klaviyo gives analysts more room. Omnisend can give operators a shorter path to the answer.

Different teams will value those differently.

Klaviyo vs Omnisend A/B Testing

Both support A/B testing.

Our preference for actually setting tests up is Omnisend.

That doesn't mean its statistical capabilities automatically outperform Klaviyo.

It means the workflow feels easier to us.

And that distinction matters more than it sounds.

A theoretically more advanced testing environment creates zero incremental revenue if the team rarely runs tests because the process is annoying.

AI and MCP

AI is becoming less useful as a platform differentiator because both companies are moving quickly.

Omnisend supports MCP-based workflows that let users connect the platform with tools such as ChatGPT and Claude for account-management tasks including reporting, analysis and segmentation.

Klaviyo is also expanding its AI and MCP capabilities.

So “it has AI” is not a particularly useful reason by itself to choose either platform.

The more important question is:

Can the AI actually help you make better decisions with your own customer data?

We expect this area to change significantly over the next few years.

Is Omnisend Good Enough for Large Ecommerce Brands?

Yes, potentially.

We wouldn't rule Omnisend out simply because a brand has crossed $5M, $10M or $20M in revenue.

Revenue isn't the right deciding variable.

A $15M ecommerce brand with a straightforward product line and lifecycle can have simpler email requirements than a $3M subscription brand with multiple products, complex customer states and a heavy integration stack.

Look at complexity instead:

  • customer data
  • integrations
  • subscription logic
  • lifecycle complexity
  • reporting requirements
  • team structure

The more sophisticated those become, the stronger Klaviyo's argument gets.

But:

Large brand does not automatically mean Klaviyo is mandatory.

Which Would We Pick for a $3M to $20M Ecommerce Brand?

If you gave us no other information and said:

“Price doesn't matter. Pick one.”

We would choose Klaviyo.

It has the higher ceiling and gives us confidence that, as the retention program becomes more sophisticated, the platform is unlikely to become the limitation. That is also why most of our Klaviyo management work sits there.

But we also would not migrate a healthy Omnisend account to Klaviyo just because Klaviyo is the market leader. We run Omnisend management for brands where that is the right platform.

There needs to be something we're solving.

If everything the brand needs works well inside Omnisend, changing ESPs simply to have the more prestigious logo in your tech stack makes very little sense.

Should You Switch From Klaviyo to Omnisend?

Consider it if:

  • Klaviyo costs are becoming material
  • you aren't using much of Klaviyo's advanced functionality
  • Omnisend supports your important integrations
  • your lifecycle requirements aren't unusually complex
  • your team values a more streamlined operating experience

But we would not migrate because your email revenue is disappointing.

Changing ESPs does not fix:

  • weak campaigns
  • bad offers
  • poor lifecycle strategy
  • missing flows
  • weak retention
  • bad list growth
  • poor deliverability

A broken retention system inside Klaviyo will still be a broken retention system when you rebuild it somewhere else.

Should You Switch From Omnisend to Klaviyo?

The reverse is also true.

Don't migrate because somebody told you:

“Real ecommerce brands use Klaviyo.”

Move when there is an actual capability gap.

For example:

  • your segmentation requirements have become significantly more advanced
  • your customer data architecture is getting more complex
  • your integration requirements demand it
  • your lifecycle logic is becoming difficult to execute in the existing setup
  • you need a wider B2C CRM and data ecosystem

If none of those are problems, there may be nothing to fix.

Our Verdict

Klaviyo is still our overall winner for sophisticated ecommerce brands.

It has the higher ceiling, the broader ecosystem and the deeper platform.

But Omnisend is no longer something we would dismiss as a lightweight alternative for small stores.

For a lot of established ecommerce brands, it can handle the work they actually need while costing less and, in some areas, being quicker to operate.

So our decision framework is simple:

  • Choose Klaviyo when you need the additional complexity.
  • Choose Omnisend when you don't want to pay for complexity you're unlikely to use.

And if you're already successfully running one of them?

Don't migrate until you can clearly explain what problem the migration solves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Omnisend better than Klaviyo?

Not overall. We still prefer Klaviyo for sophisticated ecommerce brands because it offers greater platform depth, integrations and flexibility. But Omnisend can be the better operational choice when you don't need that extra complexity.

Can Omnisend replace Klaviyo?

For many ecommerce brands, yes. Core use cases such as campaigns, ecommerce automations, segmentation, SMS, forms, reporting and testing are available in both. The gap becomes more important when requirements become highly complex.

Is Klaviyo worth the extra cost?

It can be. If your team uses Klaviyo's deeper data, integration and lifecycle capabilities, paying more can make sense. If you're using only a fraction of them, the premium becomes harder to justify.

Is Omnisend good for large ecommerce brands?

Yes. We wouldn't rule Omnisend out based solely on revenue. The better deciding factors are lifecycle complexity, integrations, customer data requirements and how sophisticated the retention operation is.

Which has better reporting, Klaviyo or Omnisend?

Klaviyo has greater overall reporting and data depth. In our own day-to-day work, however, we've found that Omnisend makes some useful ecommerce insights easier to access. Depth and usability are different things.

Which has better A/B testing?

Both support A/B testing. We personally find Omnisend's testing workflow easier to use.

Which is better for Shopify?

Both are built heavily around ecommerce and integrate deeply with Shopify. For straightforward ecommerce operations either can work well. For more complex customer data and lifecycle requirements, we would lean toward Klaviyo.

Should I move from Klaviyo to Omnisend to save money?

Not automatically. First determine whether Omnisend supports everything you actually need and calculate whether the savings justify the disruption of migrating. Never use an ESP migration as a substitute for fixing your email strategy.
