How to Build a High-Converting Klaviyo Pop-Up Form
A high-converting Klaviyo signup form should do more than appear after a fixed timer and ask for an email address.
For many ecommerce brands, a stronger approach combines a clear reason to subscribe, a multi-step interaction, useful preference data, thoughtful targeting and continuous testing.
Start With the Offer
The offer is usually the highest-impact variable, and it is the one most brands set once and never revisit. Options include:
- a mystery discount revealed after signup;
- a straightforward percentage discount;
- a free gift with the first order;
- free shipping;
- early access to launches or restocks;
- another benefit specific to your brand, such as a guide, quiz result or member pricing.
There is no universal winner. What matters is whether the offer attracts people who go on to buy at an acceptable margin.
Use a Full-Screen or High-Attention Experience Carefully
More visual real estate can improve clarity, branding and attention. It gives you room to explain why subscribing is worth it rather than just showing a discount code.
It is also more intrusive, and on some sites that costs you sessions. Test it against a standard popup, a flyout and other formats rather than assuming full-screen always wins.
Use a Micro-Commitment Before Asking for Email
Instead of opening with the email field, open with something easier to answer, for example a question like what are you shopping for. The email step follows.
The reasoning is that a small first action makes the next one feel more natural, and the interaction is more engaging than a form field. It tends to help, and it is not guaranteed for every audience, so treat it as a variant to test rather than a rule.
Ask a Question That Creates Useful Data
Good first-step questions capture something you can act on:
- the customer's goal;
- product or category interest;
- shopping intent, including buying for themselves versus as a gift;
- use case or experience level.
The answer should influence the welcome flow, product recommendations or segmentation. If it does not change anything, it is unnecessary friction.
Targeting and Timing
These are the levers worth configuring deliberately:
- time delay;
- scroll depth;
- exit intent;
- page type, so a blog visitor and a product page visitor can see different messages;
- exclusion of existing subscribers;
- exclusion on cart and checkout pages;
- geography where consent requirements or shipping differ.
Do not treat something like six seconds plus 60% scroll as universally correct. Those are test variables, and the right combination depends on your traffic and page behavior.
Build Mobile and Desktop Intentionally
Some brands benefit from separate experiences per device. Others are better served by one responsive experience that is well built.
Either way, optimize for:
- readability at small sizes;
- an obvious and reachable close control;
- form fields that are easy to tap and complete;
- keyboard behavior when an input is focused;
- the call to action staying visible without scrolling.
Connect the Data to the Welcome Flow
This is the part most implementations skip, and it is where the value sits.
If a visitor selects a goal such as building muscle, the welcome sequence can lead with the products and content relevant to that goal instead of a generic brand introduction.
Collecting the data is only half the job. See how to build a high-converting Klaviyo welcome flow for how to use it.
What to A/B Test First
- the offer;
- the form concept and first step;
- the trigger and timing;
- the headline;
- the number of steps;
- the mobile execution.
Measure subscriber-to-customer conversion alongside signup rate. A variant that captures fewer emails and produces more buyers is the better variant. The wider measurement framework is in how to build your Shopify email list.
Klaviyo vs Alia
- Klaviyo forms
- Native, convenient and capable. Data lands directly on the profile with no extra integration, which keeps the setup simple.
- Alia
- Specialist signup-form tooling with more interactive and quiz-style functionality, useful when the signup experience itself is a priority.
Both work. For most brands the native forms are the right starting point, and specialist tooling earns its place when you want a richer interaction. See how to build high-converting Shopify popups with Alia.
